K-State Salina History

In 1965, the Kansas State Legislature created Schilling Institute after the Schilling Air Force Base closed. In 1969 it was renamed the Kansas Technical Institute and in 1988 it became the Kansas College of Technology. The Kansas College of Technology merged with Kansas State University on April 25, 1991.

K-State Salina prides itself on providing a small campus atmosphere with a professional learning environment built on theory and industry application. This campus has always challenged what higher education can be. Beginning in 1967 it was the first university in Kansas to offer a computer science degree.  In 2011, it was one of the first universities in the nation to offer an Unmanned Aircraft Systems degree.
