K-State Salina has an elite aviation program that boasts more Master Certified Aviation Instructors than any other college or university in the country. The campus is located directly adjacent to the Salina Regional Airport which boasts a 12,000-foot runway in addition to multiple crosswind and parallel runways, situating the classroom literally steps away from all flying activity. Our flight students train for FAA certificates and ratings ranging from private pilot through commercial/multi-engine as well as the flight instructor certificate in a fleet of more than 35 modern aircraft, including Beechcraft Barons and Bonanzas and Cessna Skyhawks. Additionally, students have the opportunity to supplement their education by utilizing a variety of flight training devices located in our flight simulation lab.
K-State Salina’s dynamic aviation faculty are not only committed to providing students with innovative curriculum but also training and discipline that are centered around safety. Besides scholarship, research plays an important role in the growth and development of our aviation program. The Applied Aviation Research Center on the K-State Salina campus is a modern arena where faculty can explore, examine and establish trends, ideas and solutions that can be applied in the classroom and in industry. K-State Salina has built many working relationships with a variety of organizations and businesses across the country that benefits both the aviation program and our students.
K-State Salina prides itself on affordable flight and tuition costs. Because we are a state university, we can keep prices reasonable, and the university's degrees allow students to use federal loans to assist with costs. Within the aviation program, students can choose a focus area that includes: airport management, professional pilot, helicopter pilot, unmanned aircraft systems, avionics systems and management, and aviation maintenance management.
