March 27, 2006 ANNUAL WILDCAT FLY-IN TO SHOWCASE K-STATE PLANES AND FACILITIES SALINA – Aviation enthusiasts from across the state and region soon will land at Kansas State University’s Salina campus for the 2006 Wildcat Fly-In. The April 8 fly-in is sponsored by the K-State aviation department, giving guests the chance to see the university’s aircraft fleet, as well as training facilities for the professional pilot and aviation maintenance programs. “We are excited to have a fly-in on our campus again this year,” said Marlon Johnston, aviation department head. “It’s a great chance for pilots or anyone from the area to come out and see the planes and aviation training facilities. Plus, it’s the perfect opportunity to walk around and enjoy all the different activities and events that the whole college has to offer.” The K-State Flight Team will serve breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m.; a suggested $5 donation will benefit the team’s training and travel expenses. Departmental and campus-wide open house activities will continue until 3 p.m., including an FAA safety seminar at 10 a.m. The Wildcat Fly-In is part of the K-State Open House, an annual event that brings thousands of visitors to the K-State campuses in Salina and Manhattan. Admission to the activities and events is free, and families are welcome. Activities on the Salina campus also include shooting water balloon cannons, a LAN computer gaming party, electric car races and academic exhibits, as well as face painting and free ice cream cones.
