May 4, 2006 K-State at Salina senior honored by Alumni Association The K-State Alumni Association honored eight outstanding seniors for their accomplishments at K-State with Multicultural Senior Leadership Awards and Anderson Senior Awards. Among them was Nancy Milleret, Linwood, a 2006 graduate in professional pilot and winner of the Anderson Award for Outstanding Leadership. Milleret was one of two K-State at Salina students to assist aviator Steve Fossett with his three record setting flights around the world in the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer. She also was vice president of conference when K-State at Salina was host to the 2005 National Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference, SAFECON. "We selected the winners from a pool of many deserving candidates," said Andrea Bryant Gladin, associate director of alumni programs for the Alumni Association. "We are pleased to honor these individuals for their accomplishments during their time at K-State." Three other Anderson Senior Awards were given at Senior Send-Off on May 4. These awards annually recognize seniors for leadership, service, inspiration and academics. Faculty and peers nominate candidates. Along with Milleret, the 2006 Anderson Senior Award recipients were Adam Cowan of Overland Park, Kan., Anderson Award for Outstanding Service; Michael Townsend of Manhattan, Kan., Anderson Award for Outstanding Academics; and Trisha Culbertson of New Strawn, Kan., Anderson Award for Outstanding Inspiration. In addition, the Alumni Association named four students to receive Multicultural Senior Leadership Awards. The awards honor four students selected by the Multicultural Alumni Council. Recipients are nominated by faculty members. The 2006 recipients were Carmelita Goossen of Hillsboro, Kan., Irlanda Gutierrez of Manhattan, Kan., Angela Nichols of Wichita, Kan., and Brittany Williams of St. Peters, Mo. "We are proud to honor these students for their years of service and leadership through multicultural organizations and activities," said Alumni Association President Amy Button Renz. "The results of their efforts in encouraging diversity will leave lasting marks on the university." |
