SCHWAN FOOD CO. MAKES $25,000 GIFT TO K-STATE AT SALINA

June 1, 2004

SALINA – A $25,000 gift from the Schwan Food Co. will fund scholarships and student projects at Kansas State University. The donation recently was made to K-State’s College of Technology and Aviation, located on the Salina campus.

The gift to the Al Schwan Fund for Excellence was set up by the company in honor of Al Schwan and in recognition of Tony’s Pizza Service. Gifts to the fund are divided up, where a portion is dedicated to funding for current student projects, another percentage is for scholarships for outstanding students and the remaining amount is placed in an interest-earning endowment that can be used in the future to fund student projects and other areas of excellence.

“Schwan’s has a strong history with K-State at Salina, and this gift shows their continued dedication to our mission and our students,” said Bill Grevas, director of development for the college. “For many years, our organizations have been partners in research, development and a host of other important areas. This financial gift helps the college now, but it also plants a seed for future support with the endowment.”

The College of Technology and Aviation offers nearly a dozen degree programs, including engineering technology, aviation maintenance, professional pilot and technology management. It is one of the smaller colleges in the K-State system, with approximately 1,000 students. The admissions office may be reached by phone at 785-826-2640 or 1-800-248-5782 (toll free in Kansas). Or visit the College’s Web site at www.sal.ksu.edu.
