K-STATE AT SALINA SPONSORING NOISEFEST DURING WILDCAT WELCOME WEEK

August 24, 2004

SALINA – As sound systems are set up and bands arrive in town, students from Kansas State University at Salina are putting the finishing touches on NoiseFest 2004. The free concert on Saturday, Aug. 28, is one of the events scheduled for K-State’s back-to-school Wildcat Welcome Week. This year marks the first time the annual Salina rock music festival has been affiliated with the campus.

“We’re really excited to have NoiseFest as part of Wildcat Welcome Week,” said Amanda Brady, Salina, activity co-director for Wildcat Welcome Week and sophomore in technology management. “It gives us a chance to make the event even bigger and to give college students something fun to do when they get back to school.”

The founder of NoiseFest, Chris Kruep, had the idea to partner the annual concert with K-State at Salina’s week of activities for students on campus. Kruep, Salina, is a freshman in computer systems technology. He approached Brady and co-director Susie Green, about adding NoiseFest. Green, Assaria, is a freshman in applied technologies. Brady and Green liked the idea of adding the concert to their scheduled events and agreed to coordinate the planning and publicity of the event, to allow Kruep to focus on the musical acts and sound equipment.

NoiseFest will take place in Oakdale Park from 5 to 10 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. The event will feature live performances from five bands, as well as a rock climbing wall, merchandise, pizza and a booth with K-State information. A money machine, courtesy of First Bank Kansas, also will be open from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Headlining the concert will be the band Supernatural, which features two K-State at Salina students. Other bands scheduled to perform are My Motive, DOC, Killing Fields and Jacknife.

“In the past they’ve had a few thousand people come to hear the bands,” Brady said, “and we’re hoping that the expanded event will attract even more people. It should be a really good time for anyone.”
