K-STATE AT SALINA DELEGATION MAKES IMPRESSION AT CONFERENCE October 14 , 2004 SALINA -Kansas State University at Salina made an impression for the second year in a row at the recent American Society for Engineering Education Midwest section conference at Pittsburg State University, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. With nearly a dozen faculty members and administrators in attendance, the college was again recognized for the most "person-miles" traveled of any school in attendance. Eleven of the 34 papers presented at the conference were authored or co-authored by K-State at Salina faculty members. “For a smaller campus, I’m proud that our college was rewarded again for having such a large number of participants,” said Dennis Kuhlman, college dean. Adding to the recognition, “Experiences in Developing a Web-based Assessment System” was presented by Troy Harding, assistant professor of computer systems technology, receiving an honorable mention. The following papers also were presented by K-State at Salina faculty: Scott Shepard presented “A Seven-Point Paradigm for Motivation within Undergraduate Research and Laboratory Projects.” Pat Ackerman, Kathy Brockway, Raju Dandu, Pedro Leite, Jung Oh and Jimmy Splichal co-presented “Tapping into the Power of the ‘Community Classroom.’” Beverlee Kissick, Alysia Starkey, Judith Collins and Oh co-presented “Information Literacy Teams: Bridging the Fluency Divide.” Ken Barnard, Fred Guzek, Gail Simmonds, Collins, Leite and Oh co-presented “Collaborative Scholarship – A Success Story.” Saeed Kahn and Kissick co-presented “The Design of a Knowledge-Based Survey Scheme for Quantifying and Propagating Diversity Skills in Science and Technology.” Oh presented “Connection Learning with Students’ Interest and Daily Lives: It is My Project.” Leite and colleagues presented “Business Projects and Authentic Learning.” Julia Morse and Oh presented “To Receive Full Credit, You Must Show Your Work: Documenting Teaching Excellence.” Dandu and colleague presented “A Process Model for Establishing Engineering Technology Programs at Technical Colleges.” Thomas Mertz presented “Experiences Using Team Projects in a Freshman Database Course.” From the aviation department: Splichal.
