K-STATE AT SALINA ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM REACCREDITED

SALINA – Engineering technology programs offered at Kansas State University at Salina were reaccredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, the recognized U.S. accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology.

The accreditation procedure was completed on campus during the 2004-2005 academic year, including a site visit by the accrediting team in November. The final results were announced by ABET in August. The programs receiving accreditation are construction engineering technology, electronic and computer engineering technology (associate and bachelor’s) and mechanical engineering technology (associate and bachelor’s).

“We are very pleased with the findings of the ABET team,” said David Delker, associate dean of academics at K-State at Salina and former engineering technology department head. “The commission’s report indicates that K-State offers high-quality educational programs from qualified faculty members who teach in well-equipped classrooms and laboratories.”
The disciplines of engineering technology emphasize the application of existing scientific and engineering techniques to a variety of real-world problems. Engineering technology differs from engineering in its emphasis on practical applications, rather than on theory and design. Engineering technicians and technologists work in the job spectrum between the engineer and the skilled craftsman, with responsibilities closest to those of the engineer.
