K-STATE EVENTS BRING MORE THAN $1,300 TO SALINA UNITED WAY

SALINA – Between the Wildcat Run and the Haunted Hike, the student governing association at Kansas State University’s Salina campus is donating $1,383.11 to the Salina Area United Way.

“ We are thrilled to be able to give back to the community,” said Robbie Sanders, senior in professional pilot and SGA president. “This donation has exceeded our expectations, which makes us very proud.”

The Haunted Hike event, Oct. 28-30, collected $1,017.61. The hike took place at Indian Rock Park, with the cost of admission as a free-will donation.

“ The first night had to be called off,” Sanders said, “but in the next two nights, we had 767 people go through the hike. In fact, in two nights, we nearly beat our previous totals that were based on doing the hike for three and four nights.”

The Sept. 27 Wildcat Run in downtown Salina brought in $365.50.

“ The money that K-State students have worked for is a big help to the United Way and the community of Salina,” said Laura Robertson of the United Way. “This donation will be credited toward our $1.16 million campaign goal and will go into the general fund, benefiting all of our agencies.”
