K-State at Salina Engineering Technology Department has been named the recipient of a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for its Enhancing Lives Through Engineering and Technology (ELITE) Program. ELITE proposal is one of about 110 proposals funded in 2006 out of 372 proposals nation wide. The ELITE scholarship grant program which starts in Fall 2007 and runs through 2011. With this grant the engineering technology department will be able to award 15-25 scholarships annually (up to $5,000 per scholarship) for the next four academic years for students majoring in construction engineering technology, web development technology, computer systems technology, electronics and computer engineering technology and mechanical engineering technology. K-State at Salina Engineering Technology department is well recognized for offering quality associate and bachelor’s degree programs in engineering technology fields. Nationally the engineering and engineering technology program enrollment numbers have not been keeping up with the needs of industry for a number of years. The ELITE scholarship grant will facilitate recruitment, retention, graduation, and placement of a diverse group of Kansas students in engineering technology fields in the high technology industries in Kansas. This grant provides access to funds for academically talented and financially needy students to major in construction engineering technology, web development technology, computer systems technology, electronics and computer engineering technology and mechanical engineering technology. |
