PPIL 270 Introduction to Unmanned Aerial Systems

Prerequisites: PPIL 111 and 113
Course Description: This course introduces students to
the history of Unmanned Aerial Systems and survey current UAS platforms,
terminology, challenges to airspace
integration and operational theory.
Three hours lec. a week.
Assignments and Requirements: This is
an on-line class. All assignments will be submitted either on-line or by
e-mail. Students will need to have access to the internet, Microsoft Word and
PowerPoint. Some class assignments will require student to correspond with
assigned group members. All students will be expected to have read and thought
about the information prior to completing assignments.
Exams: Exams are given on the assigned
date (no late exams). Make up exams will only be give to individuals who have
missed the exam for military obligations or official school functions. Appropriate
documentation must be presented. Make up exams are by appointment only.

Learning Outcomes:
1.
Students will be able to demonstrate an
understanding of UAS History
2. Students will be able to discuss
various UAS platerforms and Terminology.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate an
understanding of FAA and Military requirement for
UAS operation.
4. Student will be able to discuss the challenges
of integrating UAS operations into the
national airspace safely.
5. Students will be able to discuss the COA
process and demonstrate a basic understanding
of the requirements.
Grading: Students will be evaluated on the following

All
projects, presentations, and exams are due on the assigned date. Late
projects and presentations will be downgraded with the following criteria: up
to 1 day – 10% off, 2 to 4 days – 20% off, over 4 days the assignment will
receive a 0%. Only one exam retake is allowed. The maximum score possible on
the exam retake is 70%. There are no
retakes or make up exams for the final. Failure to take the Final Exam will
result in a class grade of F.
Grading Scale: 90-100
A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, 59 and below F.
