Checking Your K-State at Salina E-mail From Off Campus

  •  Alternatively, an Internet-connected computer running email software configured as a POP or an IMAP client offers advanced features and greater ease of use.   Examples of email client software are Outlook, Pegasus, Eudora, Mozilla, and many others.  Note that an IMAP configuration is usually recommended for its greater flexibility.  The process of setting up your home PC client for POP or IMAP is simple.

Setting up a POP/IMAP Client - Part 1

Enter your information in the correct text boxes.

Begin by setting up your e-mail software. A link to download a client is here. Most e-mail client packages will have you go through a series of steps to appropriately set up your software.Commonly you will see an input window such as this one.

You will begin by inputting your full name and your eID into the appropriate input fields. Notice that in this example the eID goes into the "Email Address" text box.

After this is done, click on "Next" in the window to go to the following step.

Setting up a POP/IMAP Client - Part 2

In this second step you will choose between a POP account or an IMAP account. The Salina Information Systems Department recommends setting up an IMAP account due to enhanced flexibility, however the differences between the two can be found here.

To configure an IMAP client, you need to tell your mail program that you are wanting to use IMAP instead of POP, then specify your "incoming server" as imap.salina.k-state.edu. If you need to specify a "Port:", enter 143.

To configure a POP client, be sure to specify that it is a POP server, then set your "incoming server" as pop.salina.k-state.edu.

If your mail client needs to have the "Port:" specified, POP uses port 110. In either case, you should setup your "outgoing (SMTP) server" as described by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Enter imap.salina.k-state.edu as your incoming server
and your outgoing server as given by your Internet Service Provider.
