The Federal TRiO Programs (TRiO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRiO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs. TRiO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRiO projects.

Student Support Services is one of the eight programs mentioned earlier and serves students enrolled in post-secondary educational institutions. Student Support Services at Kansas State University Salina has been serving students since 2001. SSS currently serves 160 students annually on the Salina campus.

In order to apply for TRIO SSS, students must be:
a US citizen and/or legal permanent resident
enrolled at K-State pursuing their first bachelor's degree
and meet at least one (1)of the following criteria:
Be income limited based on federal guidelines from the Dept. of Education
Be a first-generation college student (neither parent nor guardian received a bachelor's degree)
Have a documented disability or special need and registered with the Student Access Center.
If you qualify and are accepted into the program, an email will be sent to your K-State email address with instructions on setting up an appointment to begin services. If you do not qualify, we will refer you to other resources available on campus. Qualifying for SSS does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Our grant allows us to serve 160 students per year.

*To be able to access financial assistance services, you or a parent/guardian must complete the short Income Verification form. These services include:
Consideration for Supplemental Grant Aid (first and second year students receiving a Pell grant with unmet need qualify to apply for financial benefits that do not require repayment)
Assistance with finding and applying for scholarships
FAFSA assistance
Educational financial planning
Students who are accepted into SSS will meet with a professional staff member to discuss TRIO SSS services that can support your successful journey at K-State. With the help of an SSS professional, we will set goals for the term and for program participation (Students with exceptional participation may be considered for Grant Aid). This plan will be reviewed and updated each term as your needs change throughout your journey to graduation.
