You're invited to K-State Salina for Aviation Explorer Day, an event for high school students to explore their interest in aviation, the degree options offered at the campus, learn from alumni and industry partners and tour the first-rate facilities and campus at K-State Salina! Aviation Explorer Day is Saturday, November 14, from 9:30 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

Event Details

Explore the dynamic industry of aviation with several of K-State Salina's aviation programs, including:

Aviation Maintenance

Teaching the next generation of maintenance professionals how to service, support, inspect, maintain and operate various types of aircraft. This program prepares students to take the FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification.

Aviation Management

Behind every flight is a network of professionals managing airports, aircraft, people, schedules, finances, customers and complex operations. Our aviation management program combines business and management education with an understanding of the aviation industry.

Professional Pilot

Students receive training above and beyond the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) minimum requirements, creating professionals that are confident to fly in all conditions, troubleshoot and solve problems, make ethical decisions and exceed the expectations of the aviation industry.

Uncrewed Aircraft Systems

Students don’t just learn about drones, they become leaders in advanced aviation at K-State Salina. From your very first semester, you’ll be in the field logging real flight hours on real UAS, progressing through multirotor, fixed-wing, and VTOL aircraft.

  • Enjoy pastries and listen as Tysen Pina, the aviation department head, explains what aviation can do for you.
    
    

• Session I: Academic-focused | 10:30-11 a.m.

  • Choose your interest: aviation maintenance, aviation management, professional pilot or UAS
    • Financing your degree: K-State Scholarship Network, financial aid, etc.
    • The right flight school: Part 141 vs Part 61, safety, things to look for/ask
    • The right maintenance school: Associate or Bachelor's degree, things to look for/ask
    • The right UAS school: Things to look for/ask
      
      

• Session II: Alumni-focused | 11:15-11:45 a.m.

  • How they got there, K-State experience, Q&A
    • Aviation operations
    • Airline pilot

• Lunch | 12-12:45 p.m.

  • Explore the aviation clubs and organizations at K-State Salina
    
    

• Session III: Industry-partner-focused | 1-1:30 p.m.

  • Hear from professionals in the aviation maintenance, aviation management, pilot and UAS industries on how you can make a career in the industry.
