Frequently Asked Questions
The cost of obtaining a flight rating or endorsement is based on the number of hours and type of aircraft used in flight training. This varies by rating/endorsement and by learner. A general estimate for each rating and endorsement is as follows, but total amounts are highly subjective to learner progression.
- Commercial Multi-Engine: $7,250
- High Performance Endorsement: $2,750
- Certified Flight Instructor: $9,100
- Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument: $4,250
- Certified Flight Instructor – Multi-Engine: $9,250
After submitting the inquiry form, the director of flight operations will be in contact with you and will discuss specific financial details, associated costs and a financial plan. Non-credit flight training may be paid for by credit card. Federal aid, scholarships and military aid are not eligible to be applied to this training program.
All flight training learners must always keep a positive balance of at least $500 in their flight account. Learners that do not maintain this balance will not be permitted to continue flight training until the flight account balance is increased.
Obtaining a flight rating or endorsement can vary by learner. Contributing factors to length of training include learner commitment and aptitude, weather and learner to instructor scheduling. The minimum hours (combination of flight and ground instruction) for each rating and endorsement is as follows but total amounts are highly subjective to each learner and may exceed these minimums.
- Commercial Multi-Engine: 19.5 hours
- High Performance Endorsement: 10 hours
- Certified Flight Instructor: 39 hours
- Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument: 21.5 hours
- Certified Flight Instructor – Multi-Engine: 22 hours
If you must cancel a flight, you must give 24-hour notice to avoid the no-show charge. For weekend flying, you must cancel by noon the Friday prior. This notice must go to Flight Operations, as well as keeping open communication with your instructor.
Cancellations of less than 24 hours advance notice are charged for the full amount of time the lesson was scheduled. These cancellations are termed “no-show” cancellations. Payment for “no-show” cancellations will be the responsibility of the learner and will be debited from the learner’s flight account. If the no-show was due to an emergency or other factors outside the learner’s control, the learner may request a review of the charge. Review requests should be made to the Director of Flight Operations.
