Starting a UAS Public Safety Operation Webinar
Public safety agencies are one of the fastest growing adopters of uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) technology. Utilizing UAS provides opportunities and advantages to law enforcement, fire, and emergency management, but knowing where to start in developing a UAS operation can be complicated.
K-State Salina is offering a free webinar and live question and answer session to provide guidance to public safety and emergency management organizations on how to start a UAS operation. The K-State Salina UAS experts will be joined by two public safety professionals who have built their UAS operation from the ground up to provide guidance and answer questions live.
The webinar will discuss:
- Identifying a UAS need and use cases
- Budgeting and selecting equipment
- Training
- Documentation and legal framework
- Getting leadership and community buy in
- Funding sources

Sergeant Matthew Halton Sergeant Matthew Halton has been with the Salina Police Department since 1999. He is currently assigned as a Patrol Supervisor in the Patrol Division. He also serves as the supervisor for the Salina Police Department UAS program. |

Deputy Jason Grubbs Deputy Jason Grubbs is a senior deputy and the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Team Leader for the Story County Sheriff’s Office. During 15 years of service he has positively impacted his fellow deputies as a Police Training Officer, Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Trainer, Standard Field Sobriety Test Instructor and as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team. |
System Requirements
The online training software operates on any Mac or PC system. Your system must have speakers with sound enabled. Microphone and webcam are optional to participate in the program. You will need an internet connection, broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE) is recommended.
You will need to download Zoom, a free video conferencing software to participate in the live activities. You can do this from the Zoom web site, or you will be prompted to download it prior to the program. Please review the Zoom system requirements.
