The CIT Program provides the following methods for obtaining certification.

1. Nuclear Gauge Course

Course options include:

Online course - course is online and available upon registration. The course is available to you year round with the course period designated in your registration confirmation email and the CanvasPro course page. You must complete the course and subsequent exam(s) by the stated completion date in your confirmation email and in CanvasPro. Written and performance exams are administered in Salina, KS.

In Person course - two day course instructed in Salina, KS and written and performance exams are administered on the last day.

Prerequisite: Provide a Radiation Safety Training certificate upon registration

2. Nuclear Gauge Exam with IA Witness

This option is for individuals who have been IA witnessed and only need to take the written exam. The exam is online and available upon registration. The exam is available year round with the exam period designated in your registration confirmation email and the CanvasPro exam page. You must complete the exam by the stated completion date in your confirmation email and in CanvasPro. The exam can be taken and submitted one time. It can be taken at the student’s location and requires an approved proctor. Registration is necessary if a retake is needed.

Prerequisite: Witness form submitted upon registering.

Course Description

The Nuclear Gauge Certification course will provide information on the different KT Methods that require the nuclear gauge. Topics covered include Test KT-32, 36, 38, 41, 51 and Standard Counts.

Kent Rosdahl

Kent is the instructor for the Nuclear Gauge certification training. The use of the Nuclear Gauge is a skill he learned while working for the Kansas Department of Transportation, where he worked for over 43 years. He started out in road maintenance, then went to road construction inspection and on to the District One Materials lab where he eventually became the supervisor. Kent retired from KDOT in 2017 but has continued to teach the Nuclear Gauge class for the CIT Program. He has taught for a total of 10 years. Kent lives in Topeka with his wife of 46 years. He has two sons who live in Topeka also. In his retirement he enjoys traveling, golf and just enjoying life.

Testing Information

  • Exam: The class and quiz out options require a written exam and a performance exam. The recertification option requires a written exam.
  • Score: A score of 70% or higher is needed on the written exam. Failure of the written exam requires a full retest. If one or more performance tests are failed, only the failed tests need to be retaken.
