Using Telemental Health Ethically and Effectively

The past year has challenged mental health providers in many ways, including a rapid shift to teletherapy to meet clients’ needs. Thus, many therapists may feel they are practicing telehealth without a proper introduction to it. Other therapists may be considering teletherapy practice for the first time. Thus, this three-hour workshop aims to assist therapists using or planning to use teletherapy.

The multi-fold purpose of this program is to clarify the multiple definitions of telehealth, summarize research evidence for appropriate use of teletherapy, and review mental health ethics codes and apply guidelines to telemental health practice. Additionally, legal considerations will be briefly addressed as well as ensuring the therapist is ready for the first telemental health visit. Finally, telehealth resources will be shared for therapists to reference any time. Join Dr. Duncan for this important, interactive workshop!

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Describe, identify the purpose of, and discuss sustainability of telehealth
  • Summarize research evidence for teletherapy
  • Review and apply mental health ethics codes and telemental health guidelines
  • Discuss legal considerations
  • Prepare for telemental health visit
  • Identify telehealth resources

Attendees may use these courses to receive up to 3 CEU hours. Kansas State University is a pre-approved continuing education provider approved by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. Provider number 15-005.
